- The CRUE ERA-Net has launched its second joint funding initiative for transnational, collaborative research project proposals.
The call is focussed on 'Flood Resilient Communities - Managing the Consequences of Flooding' and concentrates on two thematic areas considered key elements of future flood risk management: 1) Improving risk awareness and increasing public participation and 2) Flood event management. The CRUE network is actively encouraging researchers to work closely with policy makers and pracitioners to ensure proposals effectively underpin national research priorities.
Full details on the joint funding initiative can be found on the CRUE website. Applicants must be cognisant of 'common' and national funding arrangements for the call and proposals for should be submitted via the CRUE website by Wednesday, 15th October 2008. - 25 June

- Defra and the research councils recently announced a call for bids to set up a Collaborative Centre of Excellence on natural and environmental risk. The proposal is to set up a "virtual" centre which will fund secondments into Defra to look at areas of risk for which we are responsible. These areas are flooding, climate change adaptation, chemicals, radioactivity and animal disease.
