Joint Defra/EA Flood and coastal erosion risk management R&D programme
Cross-cutting and related research
Crue-Eranet
The CRUE European Research Area Network (Eranet) has been set up to consolidate existing European flood research programmes, promote best practice and identify gaps and opportunities for collaboration on future programme content. Defra and the Environment Agency contribute funding towards the running of the CRUE network. The CRUISE database provides information on flood-related research across Europe and will be of equal interest to academia, the research industry and flood risk management practitioners.
Flood Risk Management Research Consortium
The Flood Risk Management Research Consortium (FRMRC) aims to undertake an integrated programme of research to support effective flood risk management by:
- establishing a programme of “cutting edge” research to enhance flood risk management practice worldwide
- short-term delivery of tools and techniques to support short term improvements in flood risk management in the United Kingdom
- development and training of the next generation of flood risk management professionals through their involvement in and exposure to the consortium’s research.
The Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council, in collaboration with the Defra/Environment Agency Joint Programme, the Natural Environment Research Council, the Scottish Executive, the Rivers Agency (Northern Ireland) and UK Water Industry Research, are providing funding to support the work of the FRMRC.

FLOODsite
The FLOODsite Project comprises an extensive programme of research and development work addressing flood risk analysis and management and is one of the European actions supporting the new European Directive on the assessment and management of flood risks.
