Description
This project is split in two sub-projects:
- HA4a: to explore the feasibility of including other sources of flooding in the Environment Agency’s current flood risk maps and,
- HA4b: to extend the Environment Agency's current flood risk maps to include coastal erosion risk.
The flood warning maps currently available from the Environment Agency cover flood risk from rivers and the sea. At present there is a lack of information on the risk from coastal erosion and from sources of flooding such as groundwater and surface water. As part of this project it is intended to identify whether and how this might be possible and, where appropriate, making the information publicly available. In order to achieve this the Environment Agency will review current good practice and undertake a number of pilot projects to consider different approaches to assessing risks and ways of presenting the information.
Conclusions for both aspects of the project will be fed into the Environment Agency’s Flood Mapping Strategy for 2008-13. |
