Suggestions for dealing with flood and coastal erosion risk

Individuals and companies occasionally approach us or the Environment Agency with ideas to help in the management of flood or coastal erosion risk or help in the response to events. In general, neither the Department nor the Agency is able to help fund or develop such projects. However, the Environment Agency has a general supervisory duty over all matters relating to flood defence and would be interested to hear of innovative ways to reduce the impact of flooding on homes and properties. You could write in the first instance to:

Defra has also set up a Flood & Coastal Erosion Risk Management Innovation Fund to encourage the development of ideas for novel solutions to managing flood and coastal erosion risk and which will make £1.5 million available over a three year period to autumn 2009.
