Protecting the countryside and natural resource protection

Houses alongside a river in a rural environmentCreating a robust policy framework and evidence base in order to promote the sustainable use and enhancement of the country’s natural heritage and ecosystems.

Outcomes we aim to achieve:

  1. Protect and enhance the natural environment, now and for future generations, and establish a robust framework for future development decisions that respect environmental constraints
  2. More and better access to the natural environment, especially for those who find it difficult to enjoy the health and well-being benefits which access to nature can bring
  3. Good water quality and a good water environment, with a sustainable balance between water supply and demand
