VLA provides a wide range of applied research and consultancy, diagnosis and surveillance on farm animal diseases to Government, the livestock health industry and private sector.
We are a National and International Reference Laboratory for a wide range of farm animal diseases and have close international links with research institutes and universities.
TSE (England) Regulations 2008 come into force The new Regulations include amendments in response to changes in EU legislation and as a result of experience gained in administering the 2006 Regulations. The Regulations lay down the rules for the prevention, control and eradication of certain TSEs.
Bluetongue: follow-up investigationVLA reports on the result of investigations into ten disease incidents in cattle that resulted in suspicion of bluetongue disease on clinical grounds but which subsequently have negative laboratory results.
Bluetongue PCR testing The PCR test for bluetongue is now available from VLA. The ELISA test can still be requested.
