VLA is internationally recognised as a centre of excellence in veterinary research.
VLA provides a wide range of applied research and consultancy, diagnostic and surveillance on farm animal diseases to Government, the livestock health industry and private sector.
We are a National and International Reference Laboratory for a wide range of farm animal diseases and have close international links with research institutes and universities.

Data from the results of VLA's pre-movement testing of livestock is published in Defra's epidemiology report on bluetongue.

VLA confirms the presence of European Bat Lyssavirus type 2 (EBLV-2) in a Daubenton’s bat.

The 2008/09 brochure is now available. This lists individual reagents (mainly antigens and antibodies) and diagnostic kits available from the VLA.
