Sustainable development in Defra

Introduction

The sustainable development impacts of the way that government runs its estate are managed through targets set in the Framework for Sustainable Development on the Government Estate.

The original Framework set operational targets for government departments between July 2002 and June 2006 and comprised nine suites of targets:

These targets were reviewed during 2006 and a new set of operational targets were announced on 12 June 2006:

Everyone in Government, from Sustainable Development Ministers and Permanent Secretaries downwards, is urged to give these targets their support and play their part in achieving them.
