Sectors and Activities which are key sources of Greenhouse gas emissions

1. Energy

Fuel combustion

  • Energy supply industries
  • Manufacturing industries and construction
  • Transport

Unintended leakage from fuel use

  • Solid fuels
  • Oil and natural gas

2. Industrial processes

  • Cement, lime and soda ash production
  • Chemical industry: Ammonia, Adipic Acid and Nitric Acid Production
  • Iron and Steel production
  • Production/consumption of halocarbons and SF6 e.g. refrigeration, air conditioning and fire extinguishers.

3. Solvents and other product use

  • Industrial coatings, paint and rubber products.

4. Agriculture

  • Animal husbandry, and animal waste management (methane)

5. Land-use change and forestry

  • Releases from agricultural soils, change in vegetation cover

 6. Waste

  • Landfill and sewage sludge disposal.
