Introductory guide to valuing ecosystem services in policy making (available on this site)
This guide, published alongside the ecosystems approach action plan (see next item), provides an introduction to the valuation of ecosystem services. It builds on previous approaches to valuing the environment but takes a more systematic approach to the assessment of impacts on the natural environment. The central theme of this work is to ensure that the true value of ecosystems and the services provided are taken into account in policy decision-making.

Securing a healthy natural environment: an action plan for embedding an ecosystems approach (available on this site)
The action plan sets out a more strategic approach to policy and delivery on the natural environment. Agreement on the Conservation of African-Eurasian
Migratory Waterbirds
First report by the United Kingdom on the implementation of the Agreement
during the period 1999 and 2002
The UK has strongly supported the development of the African-Eurasian
Migratory Waterbird Agreement (AEWA), and has a long history of support
for international collaboration to conserve waterbirds since it holds
important waterbird breeding areas, is a major wintering area, and is
located on important migration routes. The UK has developed an Implementation
Plan for AEWA (Appendix 1), which will be used to take forward the development
of Agreement requirements by the UK, both domestically and internationally.

The changing flora of the UK (available on this site)
A major survey of the flowering plants and ferns of Britain and Ireland
was undertaken by botanists between 1987 and 1999. The resulting New
Atlas of the British and Irish Flora gives us a more complete picture
of the distribution of our wild plants than ever before. This booklet
summarises the main findings for the UK and assesses the changes since
the only previous survey of this type, which took place in the 1950s.
Secies are examined in groups according to their status in the UK, habitat
preferences, global distributions and various physical and ecological
attributes.
