How requests for information are handled
Defra has set up a network of local Information Management Representatives (IMRs) in each business area to promote good information management practices, raise awareness and provide guidance on the access to information legislation.
A range of information and guidance has been issued to staff to help them deal with requests efficiently in accordance with the legislation. This includes:
- Guidance on how to deal with requests for information
- Responding to requests for information - checklist
- Guidance letters on how to deal with requests for information
The Ministry of Justice publishes quarterly statistics on how central government (including Defra) are handling non-routine requests for information.
Defra also publishes its response record in handling requests for personal information in accordance with section 7 of the Data Protection Act 1998.
