Regional Flood Defence Committee - 2 appointments
The Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs, is seeking to appoint one Ordinary member and a Conservation member for the Regional Flood Defence Committee (RFDC), a committee of the Environment Agency, a Defra sponsored Non-Departmental Public Body.
- Anglia (Central) - One ordinary member
- Thames - One conservation member
Regional Flood Defence Committees (RFDCs) are committee’s of the Environment Agency (EA) which help to deliver the EA’s Flood Risk Management functions. There are 11 committees across England. They meet quarterly and are made up of local authority representatives and members appointed by the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (Defra) and the EA. There is a further RFDC covering Wales which falls under the remit of Welsh Assembly Government. Further information on the RFDCs can be obtained via the Environment Agency website:

Applicants should have a good knowledge and experience in either of the following areas: nature conservation and wider environmental issues relevant to flood and costal erosion management, including biodiversity initiatives such as the Habitat Action Plans and the England Biodiversity Strategy.
Applicants will also need to understand the requirements of the EU Habitats Directive and the Habitats Regulations 1994; shoreline management plans; water level management plans; coastal habitat management plans; catchments flood management plans; and managed realignment. A passion for sustainable development issues is required. The ability to bring local and community perspectives would be advantageous but not essential.
Member posts are unpaid, expenses are payable including loss of earnings allowance and reasonable travel and subsistence.
