Data
All data which is submitted to SPIRE must meet both metadata and geometric data standards.
The SPIRE data standard was agreed by the SPIRE Data Working Group (DWG) and finalised at a two day workshop in October 2004. The DWG is made up of several Defra family organisations and other bodies providing data to Defra e.g. Natural England.
The data standard consists of a metadata standard aligned with UK GEMINI and e-GMS, a geometry standard (mandatory to correct closed polygons) and an attribute standard requiring users to describe values in associated database tables.

The data working group aims to maintain and improve the spatial data standards. As part of this a standard on data tolerances has been agreed.
