Benefits of SPIRE
Defra and its related bodies benefit from direct access to greater volumes of more accurate and up-to-date GI. This provides a more consistent view upon which to base decisions and support the Defra aim for sustainable development.
SPIRE is improving access to spatial information leading to more efficient and cost effective use of timely spatial data: .
- better informed policy and decision making through access to appropriate levels of information
- improved ability to monitor the impact of policy change at national and local levels
- increased use of spatial information to engage citizens with Defra’ strategic priorities
- provide joined up and strategic pan Network access to the latest mapping information for emergency management both at Defra locations and on site.
- improved delivery of risk prevention policy – helping reduce the cost of natural disasters.
- improved endemic and exotic animal disease management.
- reduced development costs for future GI programmes through a scaleable and extendable GI infrastructure.
- wider and cheaper access to complex contextual mapping facilities for the whole of the Defra Network.
- improved data management processes and eradication of duplication of data capture processes and storage.
- improved return on data licensing and capture processes through improved access and availability.
- facilitates spatial information to be promoted across the Defra network, and its integration into business operations.
