Multi-Agency Geographic Information for the Countryside (MAGIC)
Defra maintains an Internet based interactive mapping application known as Multi-Agency Geographic Information for the Countryside (MAGIC) to disseminate environmentally related GI more widely to government bodies and the general public. The application is primarily used to view data and provide some basic GI functionality. MAGIC was the first web-based interactive map to bring together information on key environmental schemes and designations in one place, and provides the ability for that information to be explored using its interactive mapping tools.

MAGIC is a partnership project involving government bodies with responsibilities for rural policy management and related services. The project is led by Defra and includes Natural England, the Environment Agency, English Heritage, the Forestry Commission and the Department for Communities and Local Government. Since its launch, MAGIC has received two industry awards, including the Central Government Project Award from the Association of Geographic Information, and the GIS category of the Information Management Awards.
MAGIC has been designed primarily to meet the needs of the partner organisations, however, the application is available to anyone with access to the Internet at www.magic.gov.uk
