Geoweb

The Geoweb is quickly catching on as a means for the citizen to use and extract benefit from GI. Through the production of kml / kmz file types and making these available through the Internet, Geoweb applications (such as Google Earth and Microsoft Virtual Earth) can pick these up and display the information according to the requirements of the user.

Defra has begun to embrace the Geoweb by starting to make available its GI as kml / kmz files format in order that the information can be picked up by anyone using a ‘Geoweb’ application. This is in addition to the more traditional GI file types that it already makes available through the MAGIC website, or on direct request.

The following information is displayed for the purpose of enabling it to be picked up and displayed by Geoweb applications. It is also possible for users to download the information directly for direct loading into a Geoweb application, or for other non-commercial uses.

Anyone wishing to download the data directly must first agree to the terms and conditions of a click to accept’ licence agreement.
