Defra policy on awarding contracts

Here we outline guidance on our buying policies and the criteria we use for awarding contracts:

  • Requirements
Information on Defra's commitment to achieving Value For Money (VFM) savings and transparent competitive tendering.

  • Standards
Defra has implemented a Centre of Excellence (COE) for contract management to develop consistent standards across the Department and provide support to its contract management teams and suppliers. The Contract Performance Standards outline best practice and promote an open two-way approach to managing contract relationships.

  • Legal requirements
Details on how all public procurement must abide by rules laid out in the EC Procurement Regulations.

  • Award criteria
Details of evaluation of tenders and contract award criteria. We also explore MEAT (Most Economically Advantageous Tender) and our policy on sustainability.
