Strategic priorities

Following the publication of the new cross government priorities for the period from April 2008 until March 2011 in the Comprehensive Spending Review (CSR) in October 2007i Defra leads on two cross-government Public Service Agreements (PSA’s) in the new CSR period; one on Climate Change and the other on the natural Environment. These are to:

  • secure a healthy natural environment for today and the future
  • lead the global effort to avoid dangerous climate change

Our delivery network is essential in helping to us to meet these targets.

Defra also has eight Departmental Strategic Objectives which describe everything we do, and which will be used to manage performance. These are:

A significant part of Defra’s  work in many of these areas is concerned with preparedness for emergencies and contingencies .
