Body’s own objectives
  • To provide high quality advice and guidance to responsible authorities during their contingency planning for Chemical, Biological, Radiological, Nuclear (CBRN) and significant hazardous materials (HAZMAT) incidents and during actual incidents, and regularly help validate and test the arrangements that are in place across the UK;
  • To work with specialist suppliers and advisers to ensure that responsible authorities have drawn on the expertise of companies in the private sector to carry out decontamination operations;
  • To work with research establishments and specialist suppliers to improve decontamination technologies and capabilities;
  • To be the eyes and ears of government in assessing the national decontamination capability.
