Risks we cover: Overseas nuclear accidents
Defra is responsible for coordinating the United Kingdom response to overseas nuclear accidents (such as Chernobyl 1986), working with the relevant international authoritative bodies and UK partners and using its Radioactive Incident Monitoring Network (RIMNET), to monitor radiation levels.

Domestic Nuclear Accidents
The Department for Business, Enterprise and Regulatory Reform (BERR) is responsible for coordinating the response to accidents in the UK
Military Nuclear Accidents
The Ministry of Defence (MOD) is responsible for coordinating the response to accidents in the UK involving military assets.
Defra is responsible for coordinating the response to the environmental pollution aspects - see environmental pollution (chemical, biological, radiological & nuclear)
