Contingency Planning and Security Division

The Contingency Planning and Security Division (CPSD) in Defra is responsible for co-ordinating Defra’s contingency planning and developing the Department’s Contingency Planning Strategy. The work is mostly discharged through CPSD’s Contingencies Branch which consists of two teams:

The Branch also provides:

  • A Secretariat for the Contingency Planning Board,
  • A focal point for Contingency Planning policy in Defra,
  • Departmental representation at cross government fora
  • UK representation at NATO Food and Agriculture Planning Committee (FAPC)
  • Maintenance of the Generic Response Plan
  • Maintenance and development of the Department’s Emergency Operations Centre to meet the Department’s Lead Government Department responsibilities.
