Alongside the publication of the Waste Strategy for England 2007, the Government launched a consultation on incentives for reducing and recycling waste by households. The consultation closed on 16 August 2007. It attracted 171 responses.
There is a link below to a summary of responses to the consultation, which gives a more detailed analysis of the views of those who responded.
Research
Defra funded a research project to examine the potential impact of waste charging in England. The project did not consider local government finance issues - for example, whether any financial incentive scheme should be revenue neutral or how it should interact with Council Tax.
