Consultation on the future of the Pesticides Safety Directorate (PSD)
This consultation closed on 14 January 2008.
This consultation paper seeks views on the proposal for PSD (an Executive Agency of Defra) to join with the Health and Safety Executive (HSE).
The proposal has been developed following recommendations made in the 2005 Hampton Review. Phillip Hampton recommended consolidating 31 national regulatory bodies into 7 thematic regulators, with the aim of making Government’s inspection and enforcement functions simpler and more customer-focussed. PSD is one of those 31 bodies and, amongst the thematic regulators identified by Hampton, Defra has considered HSE to be the most appropriate strategic fit for PSD.
