Consultation on the implementation of Part 2 of the Commons Act 2006 (commons councils)
This consultation invites your views on proposals for implementing Part 2 of the Commons Act 2006, allowing for statutory commons councils with powers to manage agricultural activities, vegetation and commoners’ rights on common land, as well as the accompanying Impact Assessment.
The consultation focuses on proposed arrangements for the establishment and operation of commons councils, including draft regulations for the standard constitution of commons councils and model establishment orders. In particular, views are sought on achieving an appropriate balance between standard requirements and the need for local flexibility. The consultation also covers further guidance and support that may be necessary to assist those with an interest in exploring the potential for, and setting up, a commons council.
The deadline for responses to the consultation is 28 November 2008.
