Consultation on The Beef and Pig Carcase Classification (England) Regulations 2009
European law introduces new rules on the implementation of Community scales for the classification of beef, pig and sheep carcases and the reporting of prices thereof, which came into effect from 1 January 2009. The EU Commissioning rules are laid down in Commission Regulation (EC) No. 1249/2008.
The UK must adopt appropriate domestic implementing measures to enforce the provisions. Defra is seeking views on the proposals contained in ‘The Beef and Pig Carcase Classification (England) Regulations 2009’ which will incorporate the enforcement powers for the new carcase classification legislation.
Comments are invited on the proposals. Responses should be received by Friday 13 November 2009.
