Consultation on Contingency Plan for Exotic Disease of Animals 2009

Animal Health, on behalf of Defra, has launched the annual review of its Contingency Plan for Exotic Disease of Animals. This is an annual review, which invites the views of stakeholders, operational partners and all interested parties.  The Animal Health Act 2002 requires that contingency plans are held for Foot and Mouth Disease, Avian Influenza and Newcastle Disease, and that they are reviewed annually and if necessary, updated.

The plan comprises the Framework Response plan, detailing the roles, responsibilities, systems and structures used in an outbreak, and the Overview of Emergency Preparedness which details the work on preparing for an outbreak and the operational arrangements for response.  The documents have been updated to reflect organisational changes in Defra and Animal Health since the last version laid before Parliament on 9 December 2008.

Defra invites your comments on both the content and the format of these documents by the closing date of 21 September 2009.
