David Heath CBE
Biography
David Heath was the Minister of State for Agriculture and Food from September 2012 to October 2013. He was elected Liberal Democrat MP for Somerton and Frome on 1 May 1997.
Education
David was educated at Millfield School, St John’s College, Oxford and the City University, London.
Political career
He was elected to Somerset County Council in 1985, where he served until May 1997. He served as Leader of the Council from 1985 to 1989. David was a member of the Audit Commission from 1994 to 1997, and in 1989 he was awarded the CBE for political service.
David has held several shadow positions, including Shadow Secretary of State for Justice and Shadow Leader of the House of Commons. He was Deputy Leader of the House of Commons from May 2010 to September 2012.
Career outside politics
On leaving University in 1979, he went into practice as a registered optician.
Personal life
David is married with 2 children.
