Consultation description

Organic production of food and feed in the UK and in other EU Member States is controlled by EU Regulations (Council Regulation (EC) 834/2007 and Commission Regulation (EC) 889/2008). The Regulations provide a framework for the testing of organic products for substances that are not allowed in organic production, but they provide little detail on the procedure that should be followed.

In order to have a testing process that is clear, fair and transparent, we have produced some draft Guidance Notes for UK organic Control Bodies and UK organic operators on the procedures that should be followed. This will ensure that a consistent approach is adopted across the UK. This consultation invites views on the draft Guidance.
