Livestock Partnership

A government / industry livestock identification and tracing solution that has the confidence of all users, improves compliance, and provides value for money.

BCMS Projects

BCMS projects which are visible within the programme are:

CTS Online
This is an external website which allows cattle keepers to report cattle births and movements via the Internet.  The project is working to refresh the system to make it work effectively with modern browsers and operating systems.
Fully Operational Status
This project is looking at linking up GB and Northern Irish cattle tracing systems to meet EU requirements. Achieving EU accreditation of CTS as a fully operational database would facilitate a number of efficiency benefits.  This project aims to analyse and address the remaining issues which are currently preventing full accreditation.
E Take-up
Generally, electronic notifications of livestock births and movements are more accurate and more timely than paper notifications.  We are looking at a range of ways of encouraging keepers to use electronic channels for reporting.
AMLS Scoping Study
AMLS is the database that holds movement information for sheep and pigs as well as cattle.  Performance and functionality issues have been raised by users; this project seeks to understand those issues and provide options for solving them.
BCMS Servers
BCMS has been operating at Workington for over 9 years.  The IT systems that help BCMS to manage their work efficiently are reaching the end of their life and need to be replaced.  This project is looking at the replacement of those IT systems.
ETAS/SIS Servers
These applications have been in use for over 10 years; the hardware they run on is at the end of its life and needs to be replaced.  The Ear Tag Allocation System (ETAS) is necessary to ensure that all cattle are uniquely identified.  SIS (Standard Interface Specification) is an email gateway for CTS and other transactions.
