Introduction

We are an Executive Agency of Government, and we are predominantly in the risk business, managing the economic and public health risks arising from certain animal diseases.

We implement and enforce specific national and European Union legislation and regulations relating to animal welfare, the control and eradication of animal diseases, the facilitation of international trade and the protection of endangered species.
