Wildlife Crime

The Wildlife Licensing and Registration Service works closely with the statutory enforcement authorities to undertake our wildlife conservation responsibilities. We liaise with and co-ordinate action with the Police, HM Revenue and Customs, and the National Wildlife Crime Unit (NWCU) in relation to the identification, investigation and prosecution of wildlife crime.

If you have information about wildlife crime

If you have information about illegal wildlife trade, imports, (re) exports, commercial use, or information relating to the registration of birds listed on Schedule 4 of the Wildlife and Countryside Act 1981, there are a number of different ways in which it may be reported:

  • You can send the details directly to us here. We will then pass the information on to the appropriate enforcement authority.
  • You may supply information directly to the NWCU at : http://www.nwcu.police.uk/
  • You can also contact your local Police Wildlife Crime Officer (PWCO) or your local police station.

Illegal Imports and (re) exports

For illegal imports or (re) exports of CITES listed species, you can send the details direct to us. HM Revenue and Customs also have a confidential hot line number 0800 595000.
