Bovine TB: Other TB statistics

The below list contains links to further statistics on various aspects of bovine TB (bTB) which you may find useful.

TB pre-movement testing monitoring data

TB pre-movement testing monitoring data for England and Wales is available here. These figures will be reviewed and updated monthly.

Gamma interferon testing data

Gamma interferon testing data is available here. 2008 figures will be updated monthly.

National Statistics on TB in cattle

Defra also publishes monthly bTB statistics under the National Statistics logo. These statistics are published approximately 3 months in arrears from the end of the reporting period. As a result, they are not as up to date as the latest provisional bTB statistics on this website, but the data provided is more complete (i.e. in the extra weeks, more bTB incidents have been classified as confirmed or otherwise).

TB expenditure

A breakdown of the Government’s bTB expenditure (PDF 30KB) for each financial year from 1997 - 2006/07 is available here.

TB in badgers

The following tables provide data on examinations for into bTB in badgers carried out by Defra’s predecessor, the Ministry for Agriculture, Fisheries and Food (MAFF) between 1974 – 1998:

Since 1998, the Randomised Badger Culling Trial (RBCT) has been carried out to establish the effect of culling badgers on TB in cattle. Badger culling in the RBCT has been completed, with some surveying work continuing into 2006. In October 2005, the Independent Scientific Group on Cattle TB (ISG) published updated analysis on reactive culling data. The Group’s final report will be published in early 2007.
