Bovine TB: Research project summary
Project SE3010: The risk to cattle from Mycobacterium bovis infection in wildlife species other than badgers
Project duration: 4 years 4 months
TB has been isolated from a variety of British wildlife species, some
for the first time e.g. muntjac, and isolations from deer are of particular
concern. But it is not clear what, if any, contribution any of these species
make to the problem on TB in cattle. Further studies would be needed in
order to determine the relative risks to cattle and to human health associated
with the consumption of infected meat from deer.
