Bovine TB: Annual TB conference for Great Britain - 6 March 2006.

Annual bTB conference for GB 2006The first annual bovine TB conference was held on 6 March 2006 at the Botanical Gardens in Birmingham. We held the event in a central location to attract as many stakeholders as possible from across Great Britain.

The first half of the programme covered an overview of the current disease situation and focussed on cattle-based control measures and developments in vaccine research.

The second half of the meeting focussed on wildlife control measures. We invited Trevor Lawson from the Badger Trust and Meurig Raymond from the National Farmers Union to present the Stakeholders discuss their views in table discussionswildlife and industry perspectives. The programme Adobe PDF file (43 KB) and speakers’ presentations are available. The meeting was very well attended with nearly 60 stakeholders representing farming, veterinary, wildlife and conservation, the meat industry, markets and local enforcement authorities, as well as other interested parties, from across Great Britain.

Tables were invited to feedback key points from their discussionsKeystone Marketing and Event Management Ltd facilitated the meeting and have produced a report summarising discussions and key themes from the day. It is important to note that this report contains the views of stakeholders expressed on the day and does not present Government policy or views. The summary of discussions of wildlife controls is being considered as part of the decision making process alongside the responses to the public consultation on badger culling.

Keystone have also provided us with feedback from delegates which is located at the end of the report. It was encouraging that attendees thought the meeting was constructive and worthwhile. The feedback will help us plan for future meetings.
