Bovine TB: TB Advisory Group - Advice to Defra Ministers and the CVO

Letter to Jeff Rooker

The TB Advisory Group has written to Lord Rooker Adobe PDF file (590 KB) providing an update on its work and reporting on the discussions the Group has had with stakeholders. These discussions focused in particular on the Final Report Adobe PDF file (2.5 MB) of the Independent Scientific Group on Cattle TB (ISG). The TB Advisory Group’s letter was published on 19 October. More information can be found here.

Husbandry best practice

The TB Advisory Group has produced a report of its views and comments Adobe PDF file (21 KB) on the Husbandry Working Group's advice on husbandry best practice. The report was sent to the Husbandry Working Group and was published on Thursday 22nd March.

The Husbandry Working Group's advice has been published on Defra's website, and the TB Advisory Group has offered its views on creating demand and encouraging uptake of these practical measures, which will help reduce the risk of TB transmission, and to raise awareness within the farming industry.

The Husbandry Working Group's advice on husbandry best practice is designed to be a living document, which will be reviewed and updated regularly. The TB Advisory Group will offer further views on updating the advice as feedback is received and as further research emerges.

Pre-movement testing

The TB Advisory Group has produced advice to Defra Ministers and the Chief Veterinary Officer on the practical delivery and impacts of pre-movement testing Adobe PDF file (61 KB). The advice was published on 16 January 2007.

The TB Advisory Group supports pre-movement testing of cattle as a means of reducing the risk of the spread of bovine TB through cattle movements. The Group has made a number of useful and practical recommendations to improve the practical delivery of pre-movement testing in the short term, and for consideration in the longer term. Some are for Government and others for industry to take forward.

Defra welcomed this helpful advice. Defra is considering the Group’s recommendations and will work with industry to take them forward. Defra will respond to the TB Advisory Group in due course.
