Imports - OVS Note 08/34

New version of Border Inspection Post manual

To:       DVMs for distribution
           OVSs responsible for BIPs

Purpose

The purpose of the OVS Note is to distribute the new version of the BIP manual.

Latest position

Version 12 of the BIP manual is now available.  A copy is attached to this note.  The manual has been sent out with track changes visible to show how the manual has changed.  I suggest that you don’t keep the hard copy in this format so in the “tools” menu, highlight “Track Changes”, then click on “accept or reject changes” and accept all.  Alternatively you could print from the internet version which should be available on the website in the next couple of days -

http://www.defra.gov.uk/animalh/int-trde/imports/bips/pdf/bipmanual.pdf

The main changes to the manual include:

  • Inclusion of National Monitoring Plan instructions
  • A list of products eligible for seal checks
  • A suggested model checklist for documentary checks
  • Further advice on unusual products
  • Guidance on lost certificates
  • Guidance on consignments with mixed CN codes (i.e. trays of hors d’œurves)
  • Procedures for trade samples

Action for OVS

  • OVS should familiarise themselves with the new manual and replace any hard copies of the manual at BIPs with the updated version.
