Importation of animal by-products from the USA – SRM Certification
Purpose
1. To provide you with a copy of the SRM certificate/declaration that will accompany consignments from the USA, of animal by-products containing bovine, ovine and caprine material.
Background
2. A recent issue has arisen in respect of consignments of animal by-products that may contain material from more than one country that may have a different BSE status as defined in Commission Decision 2007/453/EC.
3. Following negotiations with the USDA’s Animal & Plant Health Service (APHIS), we have agreed a certificate/declaration which will accompany consignments of animal by-products imported from the USA. This document will be in addition to the health certificate that accompanies the consignment in accordance with the requirements of Regulation (EC) No. 1774/2002 as amended. A copy of the certificate (PDF 161 KB) is available.
4. The certificate will be signed as follows:
- If the product is made up of material from a controlled risk or of undetermined risk country, the veterinarian will certify paragraphs 1 and 2;
- If the product contains material from both controlled/undetermined and negligible risk countries, the veterinarian will certify paragraphs 1, 2, 3 and 4;
- If the product contains material from negligible risk country only, the vet signs paragraphs 3 and 4.
