Commission questionnaire regarding review of 97/78/ec
Purpose
1. To seek the views of border inspection posts on the proposed review of Directive 97/78/EC.
Background
2. The European Commission are planning to review Directive 97/78/EC with a view to bringing forward new legislation. As a first step the Commission have sent out a questionnaire for Member States to complete which identifies areas Member States feel should be amended. We have our own views on the areas which need to be changed but as BIPs are enforcing the legislation everyday we would also welcome your views.
3. A copy of the questionnaire is attached. The questionnaire needs to be returned to the Commission by 29 February but I am sure there will be further opportunities to feed in comments if you are not able to make the deadline.

4. OVS should complete the attached questionnaire and return to Louise Mount at the e-mail address below by 25 February.
