International trade: EU exports - trade in live equidae (horses, donkeys etc)
To arrange the movement of equidae from the United Kingdom to another Member State exporters should:
-
Obtain from the local Animal Health Divisional Office (AHDO) a 'specimen copy' of the appropriate certification that will show the health requirements that the equidae will need to comply with to be eligible for this trade. It may be helpful to discuss this certification with a Defra approved Official Veterinarian to ensure that your equidae can comply with the health requirements. The AHDO can provide a list of Official Veterinarians that are in your area
Submit to the local AHDO a completed application form (EXA4) for a Defra official export health certificate. EXA4 is available from the AHDO or can be printed via the above link
-
Check with the local AHDO whether a Route Plan should be submitted for the intended journey. Further information about animal welfare and Route Plans is available from the Defra Animal Welfare web pages
