International trade: arranging export of live animals to European Union (EU) Member States

To arrange the export of live animals from the United Kingdom to another EU Member State, exporters:

    should obtain:

    1. a 'copy' of the appropriate Intra-Trade Export Health Certificate (ITAHC) from the Trade Control and Expert System (TRACES) that will show the health requirements that the animals will need to comply with to be eligible for this trade;

    2. copies of the support documents

    It may be helpful to discuss this certification with a Defra approved Official Veterinarian to ensure that your animals can comply with the health requirements. Your local Animal Health Divisional Office (AHDO) can provide a list of Official Veterinarians that are in your area

  • must submit to their local AHDO a completed application form for an ITAHC at least 10 working days in advance of the export taking place, which is available from your local AHDO or via the TRACES site

  • must ensure that the signed and stamped ITAHC accompanies the animals on their journey.
