USA eases trade restrictions on foot-and-mouth disease (fmd) susceptible imports (except from Surrey)
1. Introduction
This CIN is to inform exporters that on 30 January 2008, the US authorities published a regulation which allows imports of FMD-susceptible species and their products except those originating from Surrey.
2. Background
Following the outbreak of foot and mouth disease in the Surrey in August 2007, the US authorities placed restrictions and prohibitions, depending on the type of product and level of processing, on the importation of products from the United Kingdom derived from FMD-susceptible species.3. Highlights

- It is back-dated to 3 August 2007.
- To facilitate this resumption of trade, Defra is currently considering the amendments necessary to make the relevant export health certificates available. The first batch will be available for use over the next few days. They are:
- Bovine Semen – 138EHC
- Bovine Embryos – 6387EHC
- Ovine Semen – 3721EHC
- Caprine Semen – 3750EHC
- Pig Meat – 1631EHC
- Breeding Pigs – 1196EHC
- Dairy Products to the EU for Onward Shipment to the USA – 6274EHC
- The rest of the certificates will be made available on a case-by-case basis, as demand is brought to the attention of Animal Health Offices.
