International trade: Customer Information Notes - AI 2008/38
Bluetongue in Europe
Purpose
- To provide an update to the instructions given in Customer Information Note AI/2008/136.
Background
- CIN AI/2008/136 provides advice on the current position in respect of bluetongue in Europe.
- To clarify the issue in relation to animals to be restricted, this is to advise that:
- “all affected animals (which may include naive animals testing negative at the time of import), subject to veterinary assessment” will be restricted.
- We may restrict other animals from the same consignment if the safety of these animals cannot be assured.
- Where assurance can be provided that individual animals are “safe”, restrictions on these animals may be lifted, subject to individual veterinary assessment.
- Any remaining restrictions will be lifted on 31 October 2008.
Each consignment will be considered following veterinary assessment on a case by case basis.
