Veterinary surveillance: Surveillance data

What information will RADAR hold?

Eventually, RADAR will hold information about a great variety of animal diseases and animal populations in the UK. At present it contains information about the cattle population and reported cases of salmonella in GB. More data will be added to RADAR gradually over time. If you would like to know more about our plans for loading data, further information is available on our RADAR project page. In the meantime, we are developing an online data catalogue where you will be able to view more detailed information about the data RADAR holds. The catalogue will be available from this page shortly. It will allow you to view metadata, data definitions and information about the quality of data held on RADAR.

Can you request a data extract from RADAR for a research project?

Yes! Some of the data RADAR holds is available to scientists and epidemiologists for use in research projects, which further our understanding of veterinary surveillance and disease control in the UK. If you require an extract of our data for research purposes please fill out our RADAR data extract request form (Microsoft Word version 479 KB). If you require this form in a different file format, please contact us. (Please note that, access to some information is restricted due to data protection legislation). Please return this form by email, fax or post to:

What is our policy on data sharing?

To help us share our data more easily, we are developing a RADAR data sharing protocol. This is a formal agreement between all of the organisations sharing data for the purpose of veterinary surveillance and disease control in the UK. It sets out the basic principles, guidelines and procedures which everyone must follow. A copy of our protocol will be available on this page once it has been published.
