Veterinary surveillance: Joint Business Assurance Group (BAG) Meeting, 4th July 2005
The July BAG meeting was held at London Zoo, Regent’s Park. For the first time, members from all four BAGs, their working groups and the Programme Management Board for the Veterinary Surveillance Strategy met together on the same day. The meeting provided a good opportunity for attendees to hear a series of presentations on cross cutting issues in surveillance and a range of posters were displayed.

Topics presented and discussed on the day included:
- An update on the Animal Health and Welfare Strategy
- A summary on the work of the surveillance strategy and progress in each of the goals
- Information on current projects
- The work of the BAG working groups
- Making use of RADAR data
- Presentations on various aspects of surveillance including; British wildlife; welfare of farmed animals; surveillance in Northern Ireland; abattoir monitoring in pigs and a practitioner based surveillance system.
Most of the presentations and posters are available on the agenda. The meeting was well attended with over 100 delegates present from the farming and veterinary industries, academia and Government.
The feedback from the day was very positive with over 90%
of respondents interested in coming to a similar meeting again. A wide
variety of topics have been suggested for future meetings. The consensus
was that the day had been successful in giving a broad overview of some
of the work currently being carried out in veterinary surveillance and
it had helped increase both knowledge and understanding of the veterinary
surveillance and animal health and welfare strategies. A summary
of all responses
(40 KB) from the feedback forms is available.
Further feedbacks and comments on the meeting are welcomed.
