DACTARI report 1 January 2003 - 30 September 2006

This report presents the cumulative results of the 52 cases reported to Defra under the scheme from 1 January 2003 - 30 September 2006.

Please note that three reported cases presented to practitioners prior to January 2003 are not included in this report.

All case reports received have been for dogs.

The majority of the cases reported to date (43 out of 52) have been dogs resident in England at time of examination by a veterinary practitioner. Twenty-two of the 52 (42%) reside in the South-East of England.

Thirty-eight out of the 52 reported animals (73%) have arrived into the UK via the Pet Travel Scheme. All three cases reported in the second and third quarter of 2006 entered the UK under the Pet Travel Scheme; one dog with suspected babesiosis (arrived from France), one dog with suspected leishmaniasis and another dog with suspected ehrlichiosis (both arrived from Spain).
