Bluetongue: Pre-movement testing guidance for livestock keepers
In most cases animals must be tested before moving out of a protection or surveillance zone. Please contact your own vet to arrange for samples to be taken. There is guidance available for your vet on the sampling requirements . Please note that all individual animals that are moved require a test.
You are responsible for all the costs of the collection and the laboratory testing of the samples. Please speak to your vet about likely costs.
When planning you moves please allow enough time to allow for the testing and reporting process to take place.
The samples will be sent by your vet to a laboratory and once the testing is completed with all the results negative for Bluetongue virus, the results will be returned to your vet.
Your vet will provide you with a certified copy of the results and you should complete the self declaration form to move your livestock.
You must attach the certified copy of the results to your self declaration form.
It is advisable that no commitments be entered in to regarding movement of individual animals before receipt of a test result.
The owner or keeper of the animals to be moved must keep a copy of the self declaration certificate with them during the licensed movement. A copy of the self declaration and certified copy of the test results must be kept on the premises of origin for 6 months.
