Bluetongue: Vaccination working group

On 19 December, Defra announced that it is placing a firm order with pharmaceutical company Intervet to supply 22.5 million doses of Bluetongue vaccine. We anticipate that vaccine will begin to be available from early summer.

In the meantime, we are considering possible vaccination plans so that we are fully prepared for when vaccine is delivered. To support this process, we have set up a Bluetongue Vaccination Working Group with representatives from the devolved administrations, the farming industry, veterinary organisations and scientific experts on Bluetongue. The group has been set up to support the purchase of vaccine and work on the practical details of a vaccination delivery plan, which must be submitted to the Commission for approval by the end of January 2008.
