Animals sent to slaughter from suspect or infected farms
Meat from animals sent to slaughter from farms infected or suspected of being infected with one of the listed diseases is prohibited from entering the food chain.
Where disease is suspected and the slaughterhouse is notified by Animal health or the Meat Hygiene Service OV they have received animals from a suspect or infected premises must detain the meat until disease is negated.
If disease is confirmed such meat must be disposed of as category 2 animal by-product. Where this meat has moved from the slaughterhouse the FBO must notify the recipient they have such meat. This premises in turn has the same obligations to dispose of the meat or notify other premises if the meat has moved. There is not a requirement to trace meat that has been sold to the end-consumer.
