Defra's revised Contingency Plan for Exotic Animal Diseases was laid before Parliament on 10th December 2007. The plan covers arrangements for dealing with a range of exotic animal diseases, including Foot and Mouth Disease, Avian Influenza and, for the first time, Rabies and Bluetongue. Exercise Hawthorn: National-Scale Avian Influenza Exercise, 5 April 2006
The Government, in partnership with the Devolved Administrations, began a real-time simulation of an outbreak of avian influenza disease in poultry in this country on the 5 April 2006 in order to check its contingency plans for the control of any such outbreak and those of its agencies and operational partners.
