Disease control: Government Strategy on Avian Quarantine
On
26 October 2005 Secretary of State, Margaret Beckett, commissioned an
independent review of the UK's avian quarantine system for captive birds.
The “Dimmock report” was published on 15 December 2005 and
made 32 recommendations for changes to the quarantine regime to ensure
that it is as secure as possible. The Government, the Scottish Executive
and the National Assembly for Wales have jointly responded to this report
and accept, or accept in principle the majority of the recommendations.
The full government response is available:
19 April 2006 - News release: Government responds to independent enquiry into quarantine system. A Ministers' Statement has also been published.
